for over 13 years
Since its founding in 2011 with just a few hundred participants to a record 2,200+ runners lacing up in 2024, thousands of young XC runners in the nation gather at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois, on the last Friday of July every summer for races at dusk, sunset, and after dark at the big, beautiful summertime running festival that is Detweiller at Dark: the most unique cross country (XC) event in the nation on the most historic course.
Powerful pyrotechnics, a live DJ, thousands of runners and even more supporters gather annually for what has been nicknamed the “Lollapalooza of Cross Country” and the unofficial embankment upon cross country season for young runners all over the Midwest.
"Detweiller at Dark is truly the most unique cross-country race on the face of the planet. It's not just running XC at night under the lights; this race brings a concert grade sound system, laser light show, pyrotechnics, DJ, athlete village sponsored by Under Armour, food trucks, and so much more. Athletes who participate in this race will have an experience that will live with them for their entire life!" said Adam White, Partner at Shazam Racing and Owner of RC Outfitters.
